It made me feel quite uncomfortable at times, reading something and allowing the words to unplug your mind from the Matrix is a strange feeling.A fascinating read. Fortunately, Yuval Noah Harari's new book, 21 Lessons for the 21st Century, is on hand to guide us through it. From education to war and peace, to class warfare, to technological displacement, to climate change the author gives a good guide to the times we are living in. He certainly does not do all of that, but the act of trying is a lot of fun to read.

The future-gazing follow-up, Homo Deus, was also a global bestseller, and now Harari has turned his attention to the present with 21 Lessons for the 21st Century. This is an excellent book and explores a whole range of issues facing mankind. Alternatively It was like reading a depressing victim mentality journal entry whose ultimate conclusion is that we should all meditate more since we won’t have jobs. This book can be seen as an expansion and a companion to Citizen! This is an immensely clearsighted book identifying where we are now and therefore where we might be heading; it is dispassionate, the antithesis of dramatic, but it heightens how much we have to learn about co operation and getting rid of the silo mentality if we are to understand and deal with AI, technology, the ways we injure the environment and how we might unleash nuclear destruction; the most alarming scenarios are unleashed, but others debunked, saying it is not terrorism which terrorises, but our reactions to it. This book talks about 21 topics/issues that exist in our modern world, such as Equality, Nationalism, War, etc. Professor Harari was born in Haifa, Israel, to Lebanese parents in 1976. Harari is famous for his thought provoking analysis and descriptions.

The result is a book that is pleasant and enjoyable to read. A lot of his predictions for the future sound like fantasy and science fiction, but as he readily admits, anyone who tries to imagine the future without sounding like a sci fi writer is certainly wrong. It's far from a perfect book in terms of being faithful to non-fiction in conparison to a book like Ghandi. As much as I admire Harari and enjoyed 21 Lessons, I didn’t agree with everything in the book. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Oxford in 2002, and is now a lecturer at the Department of History, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
This book contains very few answers--mainly it's about questions. Well researched, thoughtful, easy to read, big concepts made accessible to everyone. Before becoming a full-time speaker and author, Calum had a 30-year career in business and journalism, working for the BBC, BP, and KPMG among others. The author doesn't go deep into particular details on each topic, but presents a lot of ideas that keeps you thinking, and wanting to learn more about from other sources/readings. As a member of the older generation the book sets out the many challenges which face our children and future generations.
