There is a small security checkpoint on Level 2, primarily used by connecting passengers, since there are no check-in desks there, and you will pass that one when coming out of customs. Yes you will need to go through an X-ray and security check during a connecting flight because during a stopover, sometimes called layover, you can have time to exit the airport, buy something outside and then return to the airport, to make your connecting flight. For domestic-to-international connection, it's still pretty rare that you have to exit and reenter security, even if you're changing terminals.

Always follow the current regulations on … If your second flight is in another terminal you will have to go through twice.

Having to go through security again is not determined by whether or not your flight is a codeshare. For connecting domestic flights, you almost never have to exit and reenter security, though there are some exceptions at airports where the terminals aren’t all connected. The security checkpoint is located inside the gate areas in Cologne and Stuttgart. My experience with airports that have transit screening is often those lines are as long as main security line anyway.Pearson Terminal 1 has 3 main levels. Even if you've already been through security checks at another airport, we're obliged to screen you again before you fly from Heathrow.
